FCC Bentonville – Mission, Vision & Values

We all want FCC Bentonville to be a great church – the church God is calling us to be.

Author & pastor Rick Warren gives the following formula of a “great church”:

the “GREAT COMMANDMENT” + the “GREAT COMMISSION” = a “GREAT CHURCH”

U     The “Great Commandment” is found in Mark 12:30-31, when Jesus was asked which commandment was the most important.  Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength… and love your neighbor as yourself."

U     The “Great Commission” is found in Matthew 28:19-20, and are Jesus’ last words to his disciples: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

So with that as our foundation, we hereby adopt the following three-fold Mission Statement:

Opening our hearts & minds to God.

Opening our hearts & arms to one another.

Opening our hearts & hands to the world.

The Vision that spins out of that Mission is:

Opening our hearts & minds to God.  We are dedicated to worship God with all of our heart and mind.  Worship involves both the mind and the spirit, is both intellectual and emotional.  For us, that involves not only attending worship, but listening for what God has to say to us, as individuals and as a community, through the written and spoken Word.

Opening our hearts & arms to one another.  As a family of faith, we are called to care for one another and be the presence of Christ to one another.  With open arms, we embrace all those who affirm Christ as Lord as part of our family of faith.

Opening our hearts & hands to the world. Christ came not to be served, but to serve.  As ambassadors for Christ, we also see ourselves as servants to all of God’s children.  In whatever ways are called for, we strive to lend a helping hand to all those in need – whether that need is physical, financial, or spiritual.

In addition to that, here is what we consider our Core Values as Disciples.

FCC Core Values (Father, we “ADORE” You… and the Ministry You call us to!) :

Authenticity – Nothing about the Christian life should be fake.  We are committed to being real at FCC, with one another and with God.  You don’t have to “dress yourself up” in any way to join us – either in your clothing, or in having to put on a “church face” to pretend you’re something you really are not.

Discipleship – We are committed to biblical teaching that assists in transforming lives, helping individuals discover and understand who God has created them to be, and what their purpose is.

Open-Mindedness – God blessed us with wonderful minds, and we should use them!  Our church will not dictate what you need to believe; we just want to help you along your faith journey.  We live in a complex world that requires a thoughtful, honest approach to difficult life-questions.  We are not a place that will give you all of the answers; but we are a place where you can ask all of the questions!  If we engage those questions with honesty and integrity, God will lead us where we need to go.

Relationship – We are committed to nurturing a personal relationship with God, and with one another.  We are much more interested in fostering relationships than in teaching people rules.  Because our church highly values relationships, we also highly value families and family ministry, and want to do all that we can to help foster Godly marriages, parenting, etc.

Equality God created all of humanity equally, regardless of gender, race, or anything else.  As such, all offices and leadership roles in our church are open to anyone called by God to fill those positions.
